The Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) and Visual Arts Scotland (VAS) have for the first time in their long histories, joined forces to jointly select and curate their annual exhibition, Open 2018. The core of the exhibition showcases work by members, featuring the best of contemporary art and design.
Within the exhibition, projects and collaborations unique to each society has been preserved including the SSA’s partnership with An Lanntair arts centre in Stornoway. Làrach which means mark, impression, site, print or footprint in Gaelic, presents work by artists who live and work on Lewis and Harris.
VAS has collaborated for the second time with Craft Scotland, showing work by three innovative glass artists including Carrie Fertig whose studio we visited in May last year, Andrew Horsley and Jeff Zimmer.
Both societies also sent teams to the main Scottish art schools to offer ten exhibition places to recent graduates.
We will be joined by artists Sharon Quigley, president of the SSA and Andrew Mackenzie, president of VAS to discuss the selection and gain a fascinating insight into this collaborative exhibition.
