Ross Little: The Heavy of Your Body Parts and The Cool Air of the Air Condition

For our summer Spin event before the August break, we will be heading up Calton Hill to visit Collective. Set up in 1984, Collective supports new work by artists who are at a pivotal stage in their development.

We will be discussing a new film and installation by Glasgow-based artist Ross Little with Siobhan Carroll, Head of Programme at Collective. The work considers different forms of globalized labour found in the ship breaking yards of India and on board a transatlantic cruise ship, contrasting the experiences of the employees and the passengers. The work is presented in an installation created to reflect the interior design of cruise ships.

We will also meet Lori Anderson, Head of Development, who will give us an insight into the redevelopment project of the A-listed City Observatory complex due to open in 2018. Collective are the custodians of this important piece in the nation’s heritage and will reopen with visual arts and learning spaces – the first time that the site will be open freely to the public in its history.
