Spin Events
Eri Itoi - Chinmi
(c) Eri Itoi
Analogue, Edinburgh
26 April 2007, 6-7.30pm
This month’s Spin event will examine drawing and mythologies through the work of the young Japanese artist, Eri Itoi.
The title of exhibition, Chinmi, is a Japanese word that is usually used to describe food which you are not used to eating or have never had before or something you don’t think is edible. It also means ‘delicacy’. And delicate defines Eri work, which is best described by the Saatchi Gallery on Particulars at David Risley Gallery, London:
‘We are so used to artistic bombast it’s almost a shock that somebody’s debut solo show, just a few months after graduation from the Edinburgh College of Art, would consist of tiny sheets where the graphite lines seem evanescent, lined up plainly and systematically, almost asking, with a strange kind of confidence, viewers to spend much more than just a passing glance with each in order to begin to unravel the many parts to the whole.’
Hidden at the back of Analogue’s bookshop, this little gem of a gallery promotes young artists on an international scale who have an illustrative nature to their work. This complements the organisation’s collection of art and design publications and periodicals. Eri will be present along with Analogue’s Co-Director Julie Nicoll.
We look forward to seeing you on 26 April.
