Join the curators of Washington Garcia and our Spin host Alhena Katsof to discuss Grier Edmundson’s first solo exhibition in Glasgow.
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Edmundson’s luscious and articulately rendered paintings are an examination of society through the juxtaposition of appropriated images. For his solo exhibition Progress! Progress?, Edmundson presents a series of prints, drawings and paintings that move seamlessly between abstraction and portraiture. These new works gleam from a rich source of cultural references that invoke thoughtful questions about visual and social history.
Edmundson is a graduate from the Masters program at the Glasgow School of Art. Has recently exhibited at Power House in Memphis (solo), Galerie Art Concept in Paris, A.Vermin’s installation at Glasgow International and has an upcoming solo exhibition at fourteen30 Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
Washington Garcia is an independent, artist-run gallery based in Glasgow. The gallery’s focus is on presenting high-quality work by mid-career and established artists who may not currently have a profile within the city of Glasgow. Washington Garcia operates with a Committee of Directors, all of whom are practicing artists.
