31 May 2007, 6-7.30pm

This month we will explore new work by Scotland-based artists, James Lumsden and Rosalind Lawless. Both artists are proficient in their skill as painters but their motives are different. James pursues the unfeasible journey to perfection and is fascinated by light and a desire for clarity. Rosalind is intrigued by space and physically constructs space within the composition of her work. Both artists share a common goal to engage with painting in its purest state.

We will look at material and method. Joining us in our discussion will be the artists and Gallery Director, Amber Roome.

James Lumsden has recently exhibited at MAC, Birmingham and has had a number of shows at Sarah Myerscough Fine Art, London. More locally, he has had a solo show at An Tuireann Arts Centre, Portree as well as exhibitions in Ireland, Denmark and Canada.

Rosalind Lawless is a recent graduate of the Royal College, and has already had solo shows at Glasgow Print Studio and Hamnavoe Gallery, Aberdeen as well as having work in Aberdeen Art Gallery’s permanent collection.

We look forward to seeing you there.
