'a who?' 2006 animation with sound (c) Katy Dove

Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh

30 March 2006

A chance for members to explore the ‘psychological possibilities of animation’ through the eyes of Glasgow-based artist Katy Dove. This month, we are giving you the opportunity to view a new work commissioned by the Talbot Rice Gallery (TRG) and the Pump House Gallery in London. a who? consists of a series of watercolours painted on linen, presented as a large format projection, where forms and colour are interspersed through the ingenious method of animation.

The show also includes two earlier films and an intellectual collection of works on paper which present a truly fascinating perspective on automatic drawing. This is the first time that Spin has visited the Talbot Rice, and we are delighted that the artist will be present to guide us through her exhibition. It promises to be a philosophical trip through the realms of sound, form and colour. Kandinsky or Klee is a good starting point.

Katy Dove was born in Oxford in 1970 and studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. She has exhibited in international shows including the Venice Biennale (2003) and the Prague Biennale (2003). She has exhibited at Tate Britain as part of their Lightbox, Art Now series (2003) and has had solo exhibitions at Transmission, Glasgow (2002) and the Collective Gallery, Edinburgh (2000).
